Teaching yoga is a very rewarding career.  There are a lot of opportunities for personal as well as professional growth and development as one provides service to others.  Helping others gain the benefit of yoga gives them a sense of fulfilment.  We all know that Yoga doesn’t only provide strength and flexibility but in overall it improves the sense of unity and self-awareness of the people doing yoga.  This is one experience that the teacher shares with their students.

In 2008, there was a market study conducted by the Yoga Journal.  The article was entitled Yoga in America which revealed that 6.9% of the US population practices Yoga.   An additional 18.3 million are not yet into Yoga but has expressed their extreme interest in Yoga while 9.4 million shared that they are thinking of joining the Yoga world the following year.  The statistics just shows that there are a lot of opportunities that await Yoga teachers.  In as much as teaching is a joy of self-discovery, it also serves as a very challenging process.  The increasing demand for the job opens up many opportunities for those who are teaching yoga to open up their own studios or have some private one-on-one lessons.

Yoga teaching job opportunities

Yoga studios or centers – There are plenty of Yoga studios that have been opening up to serve the needs of Yoginis.  The studios will offer a variety of Yoga class in which you can find your own specialization: Yoga therapy, Spiritual Yoga, Yoga for kids, prenatal of postnatal Yoga, Yoga for physical fitness, corporate Yoga, yoga for seniors, couple’s yoga, private yoga lessons, workshops or retreat.

Gym or Fitness centers – This is a perfect place to teach yoga as this is a place known to most where physical fitness is enhanced.  There are a lot of gyms or fitness centers that have opened up Yoga classes.

Health Spa or clubs – This is another suitable venue for one to search for a Yoga teaching job.  Health Spa has now incorporated Yoga in their services.  Since Spas are known to provide relaxation and rejuvenation to their customers they thought that it would also be wise to include Yoga in their services since it also offers the same goal in providing a healthy and relaxing feeling.

Corporations – One can find another Yoga job opportunity in some companies that are very much health conscious.  Some corporations have already included Yoga classes in their wellness programs which are normally subsidized by the company.

Schools – Part of the curriculum of schools and universities is physical fitness.  A variety of physical fitness clubs and programs are listed all throughout the year including Yoga.

Hotels – Most hotels are already promoting relaxation and rest and their accommodation packages have included therapy services.  Yoga and meditation lectures are offered in-house and they would want expert or professional Yoga teachers to conduct the sessions for the hotel’s patrons.

Nursing homes – Some nursing homes feel the need for Yoga class to help their patients maintain and improve not only their physical condition but also their mental condition.

Hospitals – Yoga therapy for patients are the primary reason why hospitals are including Yoga as part of their treatment.  Hence they are seeking for Yoga instructors that would assist their patients in their rehabilitation.

Cruise/resorts – The increasing demand of Yoga has expanded to putting up Yoga classes even in vacation resorts and in cruises.  These have actually been tagged as working vacation because of the nature of the job and the benefits that you will acquire from the cruise and resorts.  Instructors are provided free accommodation, meals, and the opportunity to cruise and have a luxury holiday. There are dedicated organizations or agencies that helps Yoga instructor find a job in different cruise lines or resorts.  These agencies include the following:

Fit Bodies, Inc. – this agency have been recruiting Yoga instructors in Mexico, South America and in the six resorts in Caribbean.

NRG2GO - They recruit and send off Yoga instructors to Costa Rica, Jamaica, and Mexico.

Tropical escapes – This agency is in close coordination with retreat facilities in Jamaica, St. Lucia and Jamaica.
